Biography of Dorothy Baker

Dorothy Folsom Baker 

Born April 29, 1920 in Medford, Massachusetts; Dorothy Baker passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 19, 2011.  She is known far as wide as the beloved “Dearly Demented Mom.”

Dorothy was raised during the Great Depression and joined the Women’s Army Corp upon graduation from High School in Woburn, Massachusetts. She became a First Lieutenant in the Army as a recruiter. She was stationed in Heidelberg, Germany. After 4 years of service, she retired and completed her degree in Radio/ Television at Ohio State University. She had one of the first “women’s issues” radio show in the country. 

When America became involved in the Korean War; Baker re-enlisted. She was stationed at the Pentagon and her roommate became the first woman general of the United States. Still recruiting, Baker was transferred to Dallas, Texas where she met and married George Joseph Baker in 1954 and completed her Masters in Speech Therapy at SMU. She also had a daily radio show on KGKO radio in Dallas. 

Dorothy was in sales for many years first as an insurance agent for Allstate Insurance and then as a real estate working for Century 21. She has spent the last years of her life being catered to by her daughter in the Texas Hill Country. She is survived by her daughter, Mikie Baker Casebolt, her step-granddaughter, Theresa Casebolt Robinson, and her step-great grandson, Colby Ryan Robinson as well as her niece Marye Jane Scantlin and George Joseph Baker’s daughter, Cindy Baker.

A funeral will be held Saturday, July 23 at Restland Funeral Home in Dallas, Texas. In lieu of flowers, please send a service man or woman a package oversees.
