Sorry about no blog yesterday, but I was worn out from the weekend. Lots going on in the Hill Country in October because you can go out without breaking a sweat. Unless, of course, you do the chicken dance. But that’s a story for tomorrow.

Friday night I began a weekend of festivities at the Medina Community Library Wine Fundraiser. It was a fabulous event.

The evening’s event was held out back in the beautiful native gardens. Mandy Barton did an excellent job of selecting great wines and putting on a shindig that honored the Medina Community Library in a very fitting way.

The place was all decked out and very festive looking. Entertainment was provided by the Caliche Hill Band and kept the crowd toe tappin’ all evening.

The food was fabulous. JoAnn Marshall and her crew outdid themselves with a huge assortment of appetizers for the crowd of more than 150 people. Those are handmade truffles crafted by MFF. Delicious!

There was also a silent auction to raise more money for The Best Little Library in Texas. I was the lucky winner of these.

They are made by Macie Bean and are appropriately named, “I never promised you a rose garden.” Well, I’ve got one now and it’s on my feet!

Saturday brought more great activities with a delightful speech from Sue Tracy and Shirley Hatfield Klepfer, founders of the library, on the vision in the beginning. They shared funny anecdotes and impressive moments that brought a new library to Medina in 2001.

Dr. Thomas M. Hatfield did readings from his book, Rudder: From Leader to Legend about the former highly decorated WWII vet who became the third President of Texas A&M. There were also kids stories in the newly introduced Garden of Readin’.

Saturday’s events were topped off by homemade burgers and dogs

While we sat and enjoyed the outdoor festivities, the Medina Elementary students led by Darlene Stevens sang a series of great songs. Did you know you can still tap your toes while munching on a burger? Well, at least I can.

Tomorrow we’re heading off to Oktoberfest!
